The Village of Waunakee, WI, wanted to maintain a two-lane roadway through their historic downtown. Waunakee and WIDOT sought a solution to reduce congestion and improve safety and traffic flow at this existing signalized intersection.

A feasibility study showed a flared two-lane entry roundabout would alleviate existing traffic delays, and improve safety for all modes.

MTJ Roundabout Engineering’s Mark Johnson provided roundabout capacity analysis, final horizontal design, and public outreach support for this complex, constrained intersection.

MTJ was integral to the successful public outreach effort by WIDOT and the Village. Through illustrative visualization, MTJ was able to provide an easily understood graphical representation of the impact of the new roundabout. This multi-lane roundabout opened in October 2014.
