MTJ Engineering provided the award winning roundabout analysis, design and IDS data and public outreach support for the City of Rockford as a sub-consultant to Hanson Inc., Rockford, IL as part of this phase I alternatives analysis.

This challenging high capacity multi-lane roundabout project is located in an older urban section of Rockford along IL 2. This context sensitive solution provides the City with excellent re-development opportunities through improved traffic flow, safety and access for all modes.

MTJ Engineering’s experience played a pivotal role in finding a roundabout design solution and in the acceptance of this unique and controversial solution to a historically problematic signalized intersection.

This project required approval from IL DOT Region. As such the outreach process included numerous meetings with DOT staff to facilitate a level of comfort and understanding of the expected operations of the roundabout. This project followed IL State DOT standards, and included review by region FHWA staff.
