US 36 & Community Dr.
Estes Park, CO
-

BACKGROUND
The Town of Estes Park identified this intersection as a potential gateway to the town, as US 36 is a key entrance to Estes Park from the Front Range.
To realize the Town’s vision, MTJ was retained to determine the feasibility of a roundabout application at this constrained site.
A 5-leg design alternative was determined to be feasible and was advanced to the final design.

SUMMARY
To determine the best fit with respect to impacts on major utilities and environmental constraints, MTJ developed multiple design iterations, including a 4-leg and a 5-leg to serve as access to the future redevelopment of the adjacent fairgrounds land. These alternative concept designs were developed to a high level, ensuring confidence in the selection of the preferred design and avoiding unexpected costs during final design implementation.
MTJ provided the prime firm with a turnkey final horizontal design and preliminary vertical design for incorporation into definitive plans.
Highlights
Provided roundabout feasibility analysis Gateway context
Optimized horizontal and vertical geometrics
Addressed high-speed context, pedestrian/ bicycle and nearby access needs
Optimized signing and pavement marking design recommendations
