STH 78/92
Mount Horeb, WI
The first roundabout at STH 78/92 opened in 2004, and was the first roundabout in the Wisconsin highway system. It serves as the gateway to the downtown Main Street and provides excellent business access. This constrained urban roundabout posed significant design challenges with horizontal constraints on all four corners as well as vertical profile issues.
MTJ Engineering’s Mark Johnson was responsible for all aspects of this roundabout project – from alternative analysis and public involvement, through final construction plans and construction oversight.
The STH 78/92 roundabout was so well received by the public that the Village constructed four more roundabouts along the same roadway, for which MTJ also provided final geometry and QA/QC for signing and marking.
