N. Hamilton Rd. & Clark State Rd.

Gahanna, OH

“Why can’t you build a roundabout like Clark State at Hamilton? We love that intersection!”
– An attendee at transportation public meeting

MTJ Engineering’s Mark Johnson, P.E. provided the horizontal design, signing and marking recommendation for this roundabout project in Gahanna, Ohio, working as a technical expert to MS Consultants.

MTJ performed an operational analysis of the Hamilton Clark State roundabout on 2016 (build-year) and 2026 (10-year) design to determine the acceptability of opening the roundabout in an interim configuration with less capacity than is necessary for the long-range traffic but allows for ease of adding future capacity expansion when necessary.
Safety benefits may be realized by providing a simpler design with only the capacity that is necessary for the early years of operation.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Interim/Ultimate design
  • Constrained urban context
  • Skewed intersection
