OVERVIEW

The City of Scottsdale was seeking a solution to the school traffic congestion and safety at the existing stop-controlled intersection adjacent to Anasazi Elementary School.

SUMMARY

MTJ’s horizontal geometric designs for this intersection is predicated on traffic engineering and roundabout design principles and overall project objectives, to include:

  • Adherence to speed control safety criteria
  • Optimal roundabout safety for all modes
  • Large truck/bus movements design vehicle
  • Minimize adverse ROW/environmental impacts
  • Match proposed new cross sections
  • Minimize roadway reconstruction and costs
  • Accommodate Complete Streets cross sections
  • Pedestrian safety design principles in NCHRP 834 – Crossing Solutions at Roundabouts and Channelized Turn Lanes for Pedestrians with Vision Disabilities (and PROWAG)
